Lewisburg AYSO Extra - FAQ

Lewisburg AYSO is pleased to announce the launch of its brand new Extra program starting in 2019!  This new program will be called the Lewisburg Area Soccer Club for all competitive soccer played outside of AYSO's Core recreational program, including tournaments and possible league play.

Lewisburg AYSO Extra is specifically designed to provide young players and their families with an introduction to competitive soccer in a fun, safe, cost-effective, and familiar environment that bridges the gap between AYSO Core and travel soccer.  Our Extra program will offer AYSO players extended training and opportunities to play in competitive tournaments through the fall 2019 and spring 2020 seasons.  Players selected for AYSO Extra teams will continue to play with an AYSO Core team at no additional fee, excluding uniform costs.  Depending on community feedback during the pilot period, Extra teams may also have an opportunity to transition to spring league play with other local soccer clubs competing in the NorCenPenn Soccer League (NCP) beginning as early as spring 2020.

What is AYSO Extra?

  • Extra is an extension of Lewisburg AYSO that offers youth athletes a more progressive soccer experience by providing cost-effective opportunities for competitive play outside of AYSO Core.

What is Lewisburg Area Soccer Club?

  • The Lewisburg Area Soccer Club (LASC) is the name that Lewisburg AYSO uses for its Extra program for all non-AYSO sanctioned soccer events, including tournaments, league play, and friendlies.  Functionally LASC is a part of Lewisburg AYSO, but from an outside perspective the Lewisburg Area Soccer Club is an independent soccer club.

Why use another name?

  • We chose to use a different operating name within Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer (EPYSA) to distinguish Lewisburg AYSO from other regions and to avoid confusion between the competitive play found in Extra and the recreational/ intramural Core program that Lewisburg AYSO will continue to offer.

So Lewisburg AYSO Extra is the Lewisburg Area Soccer Club?

  • Yes, but the Lewisburg Area Soccer Club is also a fully fledged soccer club complete with EPYSA recognition and sanctioning.  It is that recognition which allows Lewisburg AYSO's Extra teams to participate in soccer play outside of AYSO.

What age groups are eligible for the Extra program?

  • The Extra program is only for players at the U9 age group and up, although U8 aged players are permitted to tryout for U9 teams.  During the pilot year (2019/20) we will be seeking players born in calendar years 2010, 2011, or 2012.

How is AYSO Extra different than AYSO Core?

  • First and foremost, there are tryouts and evaluations.  Only select players are placed on Extra teams.  AYSO Core is an intramural recreational soccer with open registration, whereas Extra is an extension of that program designed to be a cost-effective introduction to competitive play in a familiar environment.  AYSO Extra teams are permitted to participate in US Soccer sanctioned tournaments and leagues, as well as potential league play and friendly matches with age-appropriate teams from other local soccer clubs.  AYSO Core teams only play other AYSO Core teams.

What is a Soccer Club?

  • At its most basic level a soccer club is an organization that has the purpose of ensuring each player is able to play the game of soccer to his or her highest potential.  Many soccer clubs have different programs within their organization.  These various programs can sometimes blur the lines for parents and make navigating the world of youth soccer a challenge.  For example, AYSO is a soccer club with various programs including Core, VIP, and Extra.

What is travel soccer?

  • Travel soccer is competitive soccer.  Click the following link to read Lewisburg AYSO's Travel Soccer FAQ, including specific information on travel soccer in the greater Lewisburg Area.

How is Lewisburg Area Soccer Club different than other soccer clubs?

  • LASC provides developing players with an introduction to club-level competition, but maintains many of AYSO's core values.  The focus on positive coaching, player development, good sportsmanship, and ensuring each player is guaranteed 50% playing time remain core tenants within the Lewisburg Area Soccer Club.

Will Lewisburg Area Soccer Club teams have their own uniforms?

  • Yes.  Teams playing under the Lewisburg Area Soccer Club banner will have a unique uniform, but will still be playing in Lewisburg green and white.  Additional details on uniforms will be added in 2019.

Does a player have to be a current AYSO player to tryout for teams in the Lewisburg Area Soccer Club?

  • Yes.  During our pilot period only currently registered AYSO players are eligible to play on Lewisburg Area Soccer Club teams.

Who can register for Lewisburg AYSO?

  • Any interested and age appropriate youth that lives in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania or any surrounding community.

How does registration work?

  • Parents of players selected for LASC teams will complete a second registration only after their child has been selected for a team.

Can my child play on both AYSO & Lewisburg Area Soccer Club teams?

  • Absolutely.  Players selected for Lewisburg Area Soccer Club teams will continue to play on their Lewisburg AYSO Core team on Saturdays.  All LASC players playing in AYSO Core will be distributed to various Core teams to maintain the philosophy of balanced teams.

Where will Lewisburg Area Soccer Club teams play?

  • During our pilot period (fall 2019) LASC teams will be eligible to compete in sanctioned EPYSA tournaments and the indoor soccer league at SportsZone.  Depending on community interest that pilot may expand to include play in the NorthCenPenn Soccer League as early as spring 2020.

How much does it cost to play in Lewisburg Area Soccer Club?

  • We are still making a final determination on the price schedule, but the current estimate on cost per player for 2019/20 is $90 for regular registration plus an estimated $35 to cover additional player fees.  The full fee covers both the fall and spring seasons, but does not include uniform costs.  Tournament costs will be determined by the price set for each tournament.

What do I do if I am interested in coaching a team?

  • Please contact us!  We would love to hear from you.

When will Lewisburg Area Soccer Club hold evaluations?

  • Initial team evaluations will be held at the Riverwoods AYSO Soccer Complex in late summer 2019 after the conclusion of Lewisburg AYSO's open registration period.  Additional evaluations will be held throughout the season.  Please continue to check our website for more information.
